BEAT IT! WINS AN AWARD!
Beat It! has won Best Speech Show at the Cardiff Student Media Awards 2008 for our first show in March. Thanks to Jonny and Rowena for taking part!
Awarded Best Speech Show at the Cardiff Student Media Awards 2008 (as judged by Radio 4‘s Paddy O‘Connell), Rhys Phillips challenges two students each week to go head to head in testing their musical knowledge. It‘s kind of a pub quiz meets Never Mind the Buzzcocks meets Counterpoint.. if you can imagine such a thing!

THE HOST
Rhys is an experienced student and community radio presenter. After presenting a series of Jazz Profiles last year on Xpress Radio and more recently on Radio Cardiff, he can now be found presenting The Jazz Society Radio Show and covering mainstream shows on Xpress Radio. He also occasionally sits in on the Root Blue programme, co-hosted the coverage of the Go Global International Music Night on 1st March 2008 and presented daily podcasts over Easter from Nantes in France when he went on tour there with the City of Cardiff Concert Band. His musical interests lie mainly in jazz and when not presenting on Xpress he can be found running the Cardiff Student Jazz Society and performing in numerous different musical groups. Oh yea, and he‘s doing a degree in Mathematics & Physics too….
THE ROUNDS
The quiz consists of three rounds & a bonus round just for fun:
Round One: Alternating between contestants – 5 general musical knowledge questions each
Round Two: 10 questions each on a specialist category – person in the lead chooses first
Bonus Round: Identify the tracks played backwards
Round Three: Three categories with 3 questions each – answer all 3 questions correctly to score 2 bonus points.
