Music Team 2006/7 is a pretty cool place to be, like hanging out on the King‘s Road in 1979 really.

To become a member of the music team all you really need is an opinion and an enthusiasm for all things musical. We meet fortnightly and review singles, giving feedback to the artist. Having done this we then discuss (sometimes heatedly) whether or not the band or artist is worthy of a place on one of our 4 playlists. The daytime musical output of the station is completely decided by the music team; we have a strong alternative sound and welcome anybody who thinks they can add to this.

Another perk of the music team is the masses of interviews available. Cardiff welcomes many an exciting band, and the Xpress music team endeavour to be there, arms outstretched, clutching a microphone in one hand and a loaded minidisk player in the other. So not only do you get to hang out and have a good old chin-wag with the industries latest darling, you then get a free gig and normally a few beers thrown in. After all this, you‘ll then disappear into the editing suit and whittle away all the embarrassing pauses and faux pas into a succinct piece of radio journalism; you never know, you might win an award for it at the yearly student media awards.
